PGS/ PGT-A

Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) or Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) refers to a genetic screening technology that checks blastocysts for abnormalities in the number of chromosomes before the embryo embeds itself in the uterus. After the embryo biopsy, the embryos will be frozen for a period of time, waiting for the biopsy result to come out. Then the chromosomally normal embryo with be implanted in the patient’s uterus (by removing any embryos with an abnormal chromosome number due to an extra or missing chromosome and/or embryos carrying chromosomal translocations).

This genetic screening technology is used to identify chromosomally abnormal embryos so as to prevent embryos with genetic or chromosomal problems from implanting in the uterus. This embryo health check not only greatly increases the IVF success rate so that older infertile women can have a baby but helps to protect pregnant women from conceiving babies with genetic defects or even having to terminate the pregnancy, which can make a mother physically and mentally broken.
