Egg Freezing

In this day and age, many people choose to have children at a later age and an increasing number of women have started to consider freezing their eggs. The illustrations below may help you get a grasp on the egg freezing process.

Egg freezing is a technique that helps women who are unable to release eggs normally or choose to get married later in life or stay single or have a higher risk of ovary cancer or suffer from primary ovarian insufficiency to keep their hope alive and become a mother someday.

The number of women choosing to freeze their eggs is rapidly rising

In times past, only women with health problems or medical conditions might freeze their eggs. Probably they were having cancer and would get chemo or radiation therapy, both of which might cause ovulation problems in the future. Probably they were either having autoimmune diseases, ovarian disorders, chocolate cyst, or endometriosis, or they might have problems with ovaries, which made them unable to ovulate normally when they got older. During IVF, some couples might encounter a problem: the husband could not provide a semen specimen on the day of the egg retrieval, and a surgery must be rescheduled with the urologist. Egg freezing had been considered an option only when the above problems arose.

Given that an increasing number of people stay single or get married till later in life in recent years, many women and young couples with a busy work schedule have begun to consider freezing their younger eggs when they can still ovulate healthy eggs. Freezing eggs is no longer an option that was only available to patients who sought medical help due to their uterine or ovarian problems.

Egg freezing is regarded as a form of insurance.

Egg freezing is an emerging trend and has been considered a form of insurance that guarantees a woman’s future pregnancy before she meets her Mr. Right. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to freeze your eggs before time runs out. The advent of vitrification, a technology that allows egg freezing and thawing in far less time is able to preserve women’s eggs for longer periods of time. And the survival rate of frozen eggs reaches 90% or higher, increasing many women’s intention to freeze their eggs.

While egg freezing is one way to extend women’s fertility, it would be advisable to get married and have a baby with your Mr. Right earlier in life. Egg freezing is merely a method to postpone marriage and pregnancy.
